Fundo ambiental, which results from the extinction of Fundo Português de Carbono, Fundo de Intervenção Ambiental, Fundo de Proteção dos Recursos Hídricos and Fundo para a Conservação da Natureza e da Biodiversidade, approved the candidacy of the Évora City Council for the implementation of the Laboratório Vivo para a Descarbonização.
Laboratório Vivo para a Descarbonização translates into the adaptation of an urban space with local identity in order to become a space for testing, demonstrating and appropriating integrated technological solutions in a real context that promote the decarbonization of living in cities, through the integration of solutions in the fields, among others, of transport and mobility, energy efficiency in buildings, innovative environmental services and promotion of the circular economy, in a logic of interaction between the municipality, knowledge centers, companies, industries and citizens. It aims to assert itself as a low-carbon, resilient, accessible, participatory and connected environment.
The project presented by Évora, one of the 10 nationally approved applications, to be developed in the Historic Center (CHE), will have a strong component in terms of population involvement, with the aim of this project to identify and test solutions that converge with the stated principles in the Pacto de Autarcas and in Acordos de Paris, but also to consolidate work models that are likely to be replicable in cities around the world.
The project focuses on CO2 reduction within the scope of the mayor pact. In terms of mobility, with regard to public transport and freight transport, the implementation of models and technological solutions that contribute to meeting the objectives of reducing CO2 and collecting useful information for the preparation of the Mobility Plan for the CHE. On the part of CME, more sustainable urban operations are expected through the use of small electric vehicles.
Laboratório Vivo para a Descarbonização aim to co-create more innovative, sustainable, inclusive and resilient cities, with a view to improving the quality of life of citizens and communities and, among other aspects, to promote the decarbonization of cities, through the implementation of solutions technologies that increase efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
In its final report, the Fundo Ambiental reveals that Évora's candidacy deserved a positive general evaluation, with an evaluation of excellent in the Innovation and Excellence criterion.
“The location of the project has distinctive characteristics, on the one hand, because it affects a historic center, which represents a challenge that is not restricted to the implementation of the LVpD, as it assumes urban planning attributes and, on the other hand, because it is located in a structuring and with a strong tourist presence allowing an intervention in the induction / perception of the living laboratory ”.
